UPI Hub: New comment

A new comment from Matthews Lungu.

Good Job mukyalaspecioza. It is great to think about the vision of Urban Promise and see it implemented through the fellowship and sponsorship programs. To influence effectively, leaders need training and all the help they can get.

Week 3 Assignment: Understanding UPI

Urban promise International is a non profit organization that originated from Camden with a goal of minimizing the number of street children in dangerous cities through providing a safe, loving, fun and creative place for youths.
Dr. Bruce Main is its founder and President of Urban Promise International who got a vision in a dusty church basement at the age of 25 years with a mission to prepare emerging leaders to initiate, develop an sustain Christian based youth development organizations and to seed new ministries as they serve vulnerable children and teens in the world's most under resourced communities.
He is the camp and executive director when it comes to the roles he holds in Urban Promise and the visionary creator of Urban Promise satellite locations in Wilmington, Miami, Toronto, Lilongwe in Malawi and others.
Since 1988, the model has been extended to other parts of the world like North America including Vancouver, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi , Africa when William Nyasulu established a youth care and many others.
In 2008, Urban Promise International was established to formalize the replication process and provides support necessary for the model to be used in communities. Six more ministries were launched in Malawi they include; RiseMalawi, Mercy Care Ministries, Rays of Hope, Cornerstone Ministries, Seeds of Promise and Voices Awake and others. Joyful Hearts Children ministries a UPI affiliate was established in 2019 by Mrs. Milly Nakato here in Uganda and the website speaks of what they do. They basically have five programs and they include; early childhood education to enable children explore their potentials in academics, spiritual nourishment given to all children through envangelism during after school program, nutritious meals are also key to children on the program, parenting sessions held to equip parents with tools to sustain them and medical treatment is given to disadvantaged families through health out reaches and referrals which aligns with Dr Bruce's conversation on the Urban Promise model.
